Of all the YA adaptations to come to the cinema in the past few years, “The Hunger Games” has done it the best.  More adult, more self-assured and flat-out entertaining than the other offerings out there, The Hunger Games’ only misstep was to split the last entry into two separate films.  “Mockingjay – Part 1” though well acted, felt like build up and filler and, quite frankly, seemed unnecessary.   That said, “Mockingjay – Part 2” is a very satisfying conclusion to a tremendously entertaining series, a dark triumph that isn’t afraid to go to some uncomfortable places. I’ve got to hand it to Seth Rogen: the man knows how to make me laugh.  I know he has his share of detractors, but for some reason his brand of humor just vibes with me.  With films like “The Interview,” “Neighbors,” and “This Is The End,” under his belt, he has consistently made me laugh with his films.  Now, with “The Night Before,” Rogen and his talented co-stars have made a raunchy, funny film that’s filled with a surprising amount of heart. Dog’s Movie House: “Spectre” Solid, Almost Old School Bond!

I make no apologies in my opinion of Daniel Craig as the best incarnation of James Bond.  Craig’s Bond is a badass of the first order, dispensing his particular skills (sorry, Liam Neeson) with utter precision and brutality.  If I were to have any criticism of the character it’s in the fact that Craig’s 007 broods a bit too much for my taste.  Narratively speaking, it’s necessary for this emotional introspection to take place due to the demands of the now four-film story arc, yet slowly but surely Craig’s Bond is becoming the Bond we all know and love.  “Spectre” continues this evolution and, aside from a few mostly minor bumps in the road, is a rousing, entertaining success. Got some new stuff in the Trailer Dog Park this afternoon.  Those of you itching for more Star Wars footage are getting an international trailer (mind the Chinese subtitles) that shows some different footage than the American release.  Also have for your perusal the first trailer to “Alice Through The Looking Glass” the sequel to Tim Burton’s massive hit “Alice In Wonderland” from a few years ago, with Johnny Depp returning as The Mad Hatter.  Enjoy and feel free to comment below and tell me what you think.  So Sayeth The Kendog! The Kenblog: “James Bond Rents A Car.”

Having just come from the latest James Bond Film “Spectre” I have to say one of the things that impressed me was the level of humor coming from Daniel Craig’s Bond this time around.  While not gut-bustingly over-the-top in the vein of the hope-I-never-see-it Jim Carrey interpretation of Bond, Craig’s superspy is not quite as dour as he’s been in the last few entries.  Speaking of Craig’s sense of humor, I ran across this almost by accident and laughed my rather large posterior off.  Imagine, if you will, what would happen if James Bond had to rent a car and the rental agent was none other than Stephen Colbert.   This is from a recent episode of Colbert’s “The Late Show.” Bonus points for Craig barely keeping it together during the long sketch.  Enjoy!  So Sayeth The Kendog!
