The Dogcast: A Little “X-Minus” One For Some Alien Old Radio Fun!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with some more Old Radio fun for all of you. In honor of the excellent new horror film “Nope” I thought it would be fun to bring the aliens and outer space to the theater of the mind. I’ve got a couple from the classic 1950s science fiction series “X-Minus One” which was really popular with some of the great science fiction writers of the day such as Ray Bradbury and Robert Heinlein. Enjoy these two from early in the series’ run and feel free to comment below or on my Facebook page! So Sayeth The Kendog!

“X-Minus One” – FIrst Contact – 10/6/1955
“X-Minus One” – Outer Limit – 11/16/1955

The Dogcast: Phil Harris/Alice Faye To Brighten Your Old Radio Fun!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with one of my favorite old radio comedies. The Phil Harris/Alice Faye show was a spinoff from The Jack Benny Program. Phil Harris is best known as Benny’s boozy band leader and he was so popular he got his own show sponsored by Fitch Shampoo (appropriately called “The Fitch Bandwagon”) It was a slice of life show that feature Phil, his movie star wife Alice Faye, their children and a whole cast of characters. Highlights were Elliot Lewis as Phil’s buddy Frank Remley and Walter Tetley as mishevious grocery boy Julius. These two shows are from the 1947 season of “The Fitch Bandwagon” but in 1948 they’d change sponsors and work for Rexall Drugs. Later in the run the show was sponsored by RCA Victor. Enjoy these two episodes and hopefully they bring a smile to your face. So Sayeth The Kendog!

The Fitch Bandwagon – Will Benny Renew Phil’s Contract – 3/9/1947
The Fitch Bandwagon – Annual Christmas Show – 12/21/47

The Dogcast: “You Bet Your Life,” Some Classic Groucho Marx For Your Old Radio Pleasure!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with some more Old Radio Fun! This time I’m featuring a couple of early episodes from the classic radio (and eventually television) program “You Bet Your Life!” In this popular series, legendary comedian and host Groucho Marx would host two pairs of two guests and they would answer questions for escalating amounts of money. The winners would be brought back to answer one final question for a larger amount of money. There was also the hundred dollar prize given if you said the secret word during the show. All of this is incidental as the real fun was listening to Groucho riff on his guests. Underrated at improv, Groucho was one of the quickest minds in comedy and this show reinvigorated his career. The two episodes are have are from 1949 during it’s first season. Enjoy and feel free to comment either below or on my Facebook page! So Sayeth The Kendog!

You Bet Your Life – 10/12/1949
You Bet Your Life – 10/19/1949

We also talk about the very entertaining thriller “Black Phone” with Ethan Hawke. Pat and I share some pretty good laughs including a bit of tomfoolery concerning a certain live spot Pat does over and over again! Enjoy and feel free to comment either below or on my Facebook page. So Sayeth The Kendog!

The Dogcast: The Pat Walsh Show- June 10th, 2022!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with another episode of The Dogcast, this time featuring my appearance on the Pat Walsh Show from Friday, June 10th. This week we not only talk movies we also uncover my not-so-secret identity as a grocery clerk and use that, uh, superpower to help you fine folks find bargains during these turbulent economic times. We also hit the humor button as I try to convince Pat to actually see an Adam Sandler movie. “Hustle” is actually a really good flick and Sandler is good in it, but old habits like Sandler-hating die hard. We also review the latest Jurassic World film and talk some other stuff. Enjoy the Pat Walsh Show and remember you can hear me live on The Pat Walsh Show every Friday night from nine to ten in the evening on Newsradio KFBK AM 1530 or 93.1 FM. So Sayeth The Kendog!
