The Kenblog: Older Horror Movies That Still Hold Up Today!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with some Halloween fun! I know that the whole COVID mess is putting the clamps on some of the normal trick-or-treating rituals of Halloween (Mrs. Kendog and I are abstaining this year), but even if you’re party is a party of a few, you can still enjoy the holiday with some classic horror movies. Now I know that we happen to view several films from our childhood through the fog of nostalgia, but I’ve chosen a few films that still hold up very well today despite the passing of the years. Check’em out below and feel free to comment either on the site or at my Facebook page! So Sayeth The Kendog!

The Kenblog: “Chadwick Boseman Is Gone Too Soon”

Hey there! It’s The Kendog and this really, really sucks. Just breaking now is the sad news that Chadwick Boseman, the actor best known as Marvel’s The Black Panther has passed after a four year battle with colon cancer. Multiple outlets broke the story that his family was by his side and that he passed into the next world at the too-young age of 43.

The Kenblog: “A Little Old Radio In Honor Of National Radio Day!”

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a little something I hope will become a regular thing at Dog’s Movie House. Ironically enough this little treat has nothing to do with the movies, but it does deal with one of my great loves: old radio.

When I was a young boy my grandfather gifted me a tape of the radio program “Who’s On First” featuring Abbott & Costello. I was hooked and the rest is history. I’ve accumulated quite the collection over the years and have decided to share these episodes with you on a (hopefully) regular basis. I think we’ll go with a couple of classics, including the aforementioned “Who’s On First.” The other is Orson Wells’ Mercury Theater On The Air adaptation of “War Of The Worlds.” While radio is still prevalent and popular today there was a time when radio was the primary form of entertainment in America. It was a form of entertainment that reflected a simpler time when the talented folks responsible for these broadcasts had to get creative. I think by these two shows you’ll see prime examples of that creativity in action. Enjoy! So Sayeth The Kendog!

The Kenblog: “Knott’s Berry Farm, The Anti-Disneyland!”

Howdy folks! It’s The Kendog here expanding on some good old-fashioned nostalgia I started last week with a vintage film about the first decade of Disneyland. When I was a kid Disneyland with the place, but I also have fond memories of Knott’s Berry Farm. It was so different from The Magic Kingdom and that was part of its charm. The rides were different with attractions like Knott’s Berry Tales, Montezuma’s Revenge, The Corkscrew, and The Soapbox Racers to name a few. It felt like a good old fashioned county fair in both atmosphere and execution and let’s not forget about that incredible fried chicken dinner!

Over the years Knott’s has transformed into another Magic Mountain wannabe, much to my disappointment, but the memories of all of those childhood visits will remain with me forever! On that note, check out this cool little documentary detailing the history of Knott’s Berry Farm and feel free to hit me up on the comments or on Facebook! So Sayeth The Kendog!
