The Kenblog – Some Great Martial Arts Fights In Honor Of “Shang-Chi!”

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with some of the best martial arts fight sequences in the movies. This is in honor of “Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings” which is a kick-ass martial arts film in its own right. In this edition I’m including some classic Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan as well as some vintage Keanu Reeves and even a little video game action along with a few other surprises. So enjoy the scenes below and feel free to comment either here or at my Facebook Page. So Sayeth The Kendog!

The Kenblog: Remembering Biz Markie!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog with some non-movie related news that still sucks anyway. On of the pioneering rappers of the eighties and great antidote to all the gangster rap that was all the rage at the time has died at the too-young age of fifty-seven. Biz Markie, one of the rappers along with The Fat Boys and Doug E. Fresh who brought human beatboxing into the mainstream and had a signature hit with his delightfully off-tune “Just A Friend” was known as “The Clown Prince Of Rap,” Markie, born Marcel Theo Hall, had been in ill health recently and had supposedly suffered a stroke earlier this year. In addition, he’d been struggling with Type 2 diabeties,

Markie came up when I was in high school in the late eighties, hitting his peak with the 1989 hit “Just A Friend,” a comedic song about a relationship with a girl who’s seeing another man on the side, but simply calls said man just a “friend.” Of course what people remember most about that song is the heavyset Markie at the piano with a white wig caterwauling the chorus at the top of his lungs. This bit of comic hilarity turned out to be improvised as Markie has said he couldn’t get anyone to come into the studio to sing the chorus. He ended up doing it himself and the rest is history. He would also appear in films like “Men In Black II” and become one of the most prolific DJs and collaborators in music history. In a musical arena where rappers take themselves so seriously most of the time, the comedic style of Biz Markie marks him as a true original! He will be missed! So Sayeth The Kendog!

The Dogcast: The Pat Walsh Show – 6/11/21

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with my latest appearance on The Pat Walsh Show! During this appearance I chat with Pat about the terrific musical “In The Heights.” We find that we kind of disagree about certain musicals, especially what comprises a “classic.” (That’s what I get for debating such an old man. . .just kidding of course!). I give my top five favorite musicals (notice I didn’t say “best” of course, just my favorites.) I also get to do my best Les Miz impression (not very good but funny as hell for all the wrong reasons). I also get to take part in “Stuff We Couldn’t Get To” with Pat and the legendary Mark The Voice Guy. Enjoy the show and feel free to comment either below or on my Facebook page. As always big thanks to Pat Walsh, Mark “The Voice Guy” McKee, and the lovely and talented Kendall Tobe for allowing me to share this amazing experience. So Sayeth The Kendog!

The Kenblog: Remembring Ned Beatty

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a brief remembrance of noted character actor Ned Beatty, who died earlier this week at the age of 83, leaving behind a tremendous legacy of wonderful character performances. Of course after years on the stage he made one of the most memorable cinematic debuts in history as a rape victim in 1972’s “Deliverance.” He was also Oscar nominated for “Network” appeared in “All The President’s Men” and Robert Altman’s “Nashville.” He was also known as the clumsy Otis in the first two “Superman” films.

He also worked in television, appearing on dozens of shows, most notably “Rosanne” and “Homicide: Life On The Street.” He was also wonderful as the voice of Lotso, the cuddly teddy bear with a mean streak in the fantastic “Toy Story 3.” The entirety of his career cannot be accurately expressed here, either in quantity or quality, but below are some of his best performances both on TV and in film. He will be missed. So Sayeth The Kendog!

The Kenblog: My Favorite Movie Musicals!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog Here with a top five list of my favorite movie musicals in honor of the rousing film “In The Heights” just released today. Now notice I did not say “best musicals” which gives me a free pass in not including some of the classics of yesteryear. My choices normally revolve around my cinematic sensibilities, which are odd to say the least. As my father famously said, “sometimes you have to be just a half a bubble off to do this job” (of course he was talking about my desire to play the partially suicidal role of indoor soccer goalkeeper at the time, but the phrase still applies). So off we go with my very, very subjective list and you can feel free to disagree or agree with me in the comments below or on my Facebook page. So Sayeth The Kendog!
