The Kenblog: Honoring Sound Design Genius Ben Burtt!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a little something new. This is an article honoring some of the most unsung heroes of the cinema. In this case we’re honoring Ben Burtt, the legendary sound designer and editor behind some of the most iconic films in history. Below is an older but still riveting documentary about our subject and his methods. (And no, he’s not dead. . .I think will honor these people while they’re alive for a change.) Enjoy the doc and remember Mr. Burtt when watching Star Wars or any of the movies he’s worked on! So Sayeth The Kendog!

The Kenblog: Best Lightsaber Duels In The Star Wars Universe!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a somewhat belated honoring of Star Wars Day! (It was May 4th, after all). As a kid I was absolutely obsessed with Star Wars. I was five years old when the first film came out in 1977 and I’ve been hooked ever since. One of my favorite aspects of the films had to be the lightsaber duels. The wonderful visual married to Ben Burtt’s legendary sound design had children of all ages trading in Excalibur for a Jedi or Sith blade. So in honor of Star Wars Day I thought I present my favorite lightsaber duels throughout the nine film Skywalker saga (and maybe a surprise or two). Enjoy the trip down memory lane and feel free to comment either below or on my Facebook page. May The Fourth Be With You! So Sayeth The Kendog!

This week we had two such legends pass: one a gifted filmmaker in the prime of his career and one a loveable giant of a character actor who was only known for one character (but what a character!)

Believe it or not, there are actually people out there in the world whose universe does not revolve around the cinematic phenomenon that is “Star Wars.”  (I know, weird right?)  They don’t understand the passion, the history, or the overall cool factor that Star Wars brings to the masses who do get it.  To that end, I will attempt to explain the importance of Star Wars, not just to me but to all those who are going to be spending a couple of hours with roughly a billion of their closest friends this weekend when “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” screens for the first time.  Don’t worry: I’m not trying to convert the unbelievers out there.  I’m just trying to help you folks to understand the phenomenon a little more. Got some new stuff in the Trailer Dog Park this afternoon.  Those of you itching for more Star Wars footage are getting an international trailer (mind the Chinese subtitles) that shows some different footage than the American release.  Also have for your perusal the first trailer to “Alice Through The Looking Glass” the sequel to Tim Burton’s massive hit “Alice In Wonderland” from a few years ago, with Johnny Depp returning as The Mad Hatter.  Enjoy and feel free to comment below and tell me what you think.  So Sayeth The Kendog!
