Old Radio Programs

Radio Daze: Some Jack Benny For Your Old Radio Listening Pleasure!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with another edition of Radio Daze in which I get to share my life long passion for old time radio with you! This edition features one of my favorite comedy shows, the Jack Benny Program. Jack’s program is still consistently funny after all of these years and is a masterclass in comedy writing and timing. Jack Benny was a master of the perfect pause and could get a laugh without saying a word. He was also very generous to his cast, not caring who got the biggest laugh as long as one was to be had. These two Jack Benny programs are from the 1940’s during the heyday of his Lucky Strike sponsorship, which lasted on radio from 1944 to 1955. “LSMFT, Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco.” Jack Benny and Lucky Strike formed one of the most profitable partnerships in old radio history. Enjoy these two classic programs during this cold and stormy weekend! So Sayeth The Kendog!

The Dogcast: Some “X-Minus One” For Your Old Radio Listening Pleasure!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with some more Old Radio fun. “X-Minus One” was a 1950s science fiction radio show that featured some of the finest stories in radio. Author such as Ray Bradbury, Harlan Ellison, and Isaac Asimov found their classic stories adapted to radio with thrilling results. “X-Minus One” is also great fun to hear because of it’s somewhat outdated concepts of how the future would look. “X-Minus One” has a polished sheen to it that makes it a fun listen on a Saturday afternoon. Enjoy these two stories and stay tuned for more on the way! So Sayeth The Kendog!

The Dogcast: A Little Hercule Poirot For Your Old Radio Enjoyment In Honor Of “Death On The Nile!”

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with some more old radio fun. Kenneth Branagh’s “Death On The Nile” has just opened featuring Branagh’s second go as Agatha Christie’s famous detective Hercule Poirot. In honor of this film, I thought it was a fun idea to see Hercule Poirot in old radio form. There was a short series in the forties featuring Harold Huber as Hercule Poirot in which he solved various cases. Unfortunately, “Death On The Nile” is not included but I’ve a couple of radio shows featuring Hercule Poirot at his confident best. Enjoy these classic offerings and as always, feel free to comment below or on my Facebook Page! So Sayeth The Kendog!

Hercule Poirot- The Adventure Of The Money Mad Ghouls- 9/13/1945
Hercule Poirot-The Trail Led To Death – 11/16/1945

The Dogcast: Some Spooky Old Radio Fun In Honor Of Ghostbusters!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog with some more old radio fun. This time we’re going with a couple of my favorites in the thriller genre. The first one’s a delightful little thriller entitled “The Bird Of Death” from the Haunting Hour program. The next is a neat creature feature from a program called The Hall Of Fantasy entitled “The Crawling Thing” from 1953 about a spider that has an unsual growth spurt. Both are wonderfully entertaining genre programs that are perfect for a dark evening in front of the fire. Enjoy and feel free to comment below or on my Facebook page. So Sayeth The Kendog!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with some espionage old radio fun to honor the new James Bond film “No Time To Die.” This one is called “Counterspy” and deals with spycraft against the Nazis during World War II. It’s a fun little series and worth a listen. Enjoy it before or after you see Bond’s latest adventure and, as always, feel free to comment below or on my Facebook page. So Sayeth The Kendog!
