Dog’s Movie House: “Black Adam” Entertaining If Somewhat Formulaic Comic Book Origin Story!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here after a week of vacation to get right back into the movie mix. Let’s jump right in and talk about “Black Adam,” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s passion project that has taken the better part of a decade to get to the big screen. Is it worth it? The answer is mostly yes, but not the slam dunk it could have been. “Black Adam” tries for a few edgy elements to differentiate itself from other superhero flicks, but the nature of the origin story keeps snapping “Black Adam” back into comfy CGI-kickassery-ville.

It’s called “DC League Of Super-Pets” and it is a delightful, funny, heartfelt romp featuring Krypto (Dwayne Johnson), Superman’s dog as he and a bunch of superpowered shelter pets try to save the Justice League from a maniacal genius guinea pig named Lulu. Dog’s Movie House: “Red Notice” Slick But Slight Star Vehicle Featuring Big Time Actors Having A Good Time!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at Netflix’s latest, an action thriller from the guy who brought you “Dodgeball” and “Central Intelligence.” This one’s called “Red Notice” and features the star-studded trio of Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot in a film that’s slickly shot and nicely acted, but slight in terms of story. That said, the actors are having a ball and director Rawson Marshall Thurber has a nicely kinetic style that keeps the film moving at a brisk clip. And since it’s on Netflix, you won’t have to worry about getting your money back if you don’t like it. (But I’m betting you will.)

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at Disney’s latest attempt to turn one of DIsneyland’s iconic rides into the next big film franchise. This time it’s “The Jungle Cruise” with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt lending their considerable star power to the film. Fortunately “The Jungle Cruise” has more in common with “Pirates Of The Carribean” rather than “The Country Bears” and director Jaume Collet-Serra (“The Shallows”) and his team have crafted a wonderfully entertaining film that honors both the ride as well as some classic adventure films that serve as this particular movie’s inspiration!

Vin Diesel As Dominic Toretto In “Fate Of The Furious”
When “The Fast And The Furious” came out in 2000 I found myself mildly amused at Rob Cohen’s somewhat clunky automotive version of “Point Break.” The movie made Vin Diesel a star and served as the beginning of one of Hollywood’s move lucrative movie franchises. The two films that followed did not feature Diesel (aside from a brief cameo at the end of “Tokyo Drift”) and the law of diminishing box office returns seemed to indicate the end of the series after just three films. But then a funny thing happened. . .director Justine Lin (who helmed “Tokyo Drift”) got together with the original cast of the first film and, along with screenwriter Chris Morgan, reinvented the franchise by focusing on the outlandish heist aspects of the story, turning the films into “Ocean’s 11” on steroids. The result has been an ever-escalating series of crazy action packed films that get bigger and bolder with each entry. “Fate Of The Furious,” the eighth film in the series, continues this trend and that’s a good thing.
