This fall brings to bare two of the big heavyweights in the animated movie department.  Disney Animation and Illumination are going to the mat when it comes to the winter season and animated films!   Illumination giving us their interpretation of the classic Dr. Seuss tale “The Grinch” while Disney is giving us the six-years in development sequel to “Wreck It Ralph,”  “Ralph Breaks The Internet.”

This fall is turning out to be a banner year for dramatic films.  Usually the holiday season boasts action fare and family fare in equal measure, and to be sure we have films like “Ralph Breaks The Internet” and “The Grinch,” but this year dramas like “Widows” have taken some of the spotlight.  But while”Widows” isn’t doing much at the box office, movies like “Creed 2” and the excellent “Green Book” are looking to compete for filmmakers dollars over the holiday season.

Dog’s Movie House: “Halloween” Fun, Creepy Sequel!

Howdy Folks!  It’s The Kendog with a look at the latest incarnation of Michael Myers in the new movie “Halloween!”

In 1978, director John Carpenter pretty much defined the slasher movie with “Halloween” pitting a masked psychopath against a group of high schoolers in the ultimate game of survival!  (Bob Clark’s “Black Christmas” was probably the first “slasher film” but Carpenter’s film really refined the concept.)  Since then there have been a bevy of sequels and two reboots, each film varying in quality and in what these films added to an increasingly convoluted mythology.   In this new film, writer/director David Gordon Green and frequent collaborator Danny McBride have basically wiped the slate clean, creating a direct sequel forty years in the making, and the film is all the better for it.

Dog’s Movie House: “First Man” Leads The Way Of What To See This Week!

Howdy Folks!  It’s The Kendog here with looks at a couple of this weeks films including Damien Chazelle’s latest, “First Man.”

Biopics are tricky things.   Do them right and you get a riveting cinematic incarnation of some of histories most important events.  Do it wrong and the audience is falling asleep just like they did during high school history class.  Fortunately, “First Man” is solidly in the former category although it does have a few flaws.   Plus we take a look at “Bad Times At The El Royale” and last week’s champion, “Venom.”
