Radio Daze: Enjoy “The Great Guildersleeve” For Some Old Radio Listening Pleasure!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog with another episode of Radio Daze! This edtion features one of the most successful spin off shows of all time. “The Great Guildersleeve” started in 1941 and ran all the way until 1954. Throckmorton P. Guildersleeve had previously been popular on Fibber McGee and Molly and proved to be just as possible on his own show. Played for most of its run by the talented Harold Peary, Guildersleeve was the Water Commissioner for the town of Summerfield and the guardian of little Leroy (Walter Tetley) and Marjorie (Virginia Lynne). Like Fibber McGee & Molly, this show had a variety of colorful characters and the show had its own groove. The first two episodes here are from 1941 and show how good the show would become! Enjoy and snuggle up to the old radio tonight! So Sayeth The kendog!
Radio Daze: “Phil Harris And Alice Faye” Bring The Laughs For Your Old Radio Listening Enjoyment!
Howdy Folks! Welcome to another episode of Radio Daze! This edition starts off the Christsmas season with a couple of classic holiday episodes from the 1948 season of “The Phil Harris/Alice Faye Show.” Jack Benny’s band leader got his own show in 1946 with Fitch Shampoo as the sponsor, but it’s best years started in 1948 when they switched to Rexall as a sponsor. In December of that first year the program showcased the holiday season with two great Christmas-themed episodes. Both of them are great fun with some legit laughs from some of the best supporting cast members in radio comedy, with Eliot Lewis as Phil’s best friend Frankie Remly and Walter Tetley as Julius the Grocery Delivery Boy. Listen for some surprise guest appearances as well. Enjoy and hope this gets you in the mood for the Christmas season! So Sayeth The Kendog!
Radio Daze: Phil Harris & Alice Faye For Your Old Radio Enjoyment!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with another episode of Radio Daze! This edition features the first two programs with their new sponsor as of 1948. Before that Phil Harris and Alice Faye had been sponsored by Fitch Shampoo. In 1948 they switched to Rexall Drugs. (Good health from Rexall!) This led to some inspired comedy dealing with their new sponsors. Real life spouses Harris and Faye got a lot of mileage out of the fact that Alice was a bigger star than Phil. Their show featured one of the better supporting casts in comedic radio. Listen closely for Eliot Lewis and Frank Remly and Walter Tetley as Julius the smart-mouthed grocery boy. It’s a great comedy and a worthy spin-off from the legendary Jack Benny program! Enjoy! So Sayeth The Kendog!
The Dogcast: It’s Old Radio Time Again, This Time With Phil Harris And Alice Faye!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with some more old radio fun! This time I’m featuring a couple of classic programs from The Phil Harris/Alice Faye show from October of 1948! Phil Harris was best known in those days as Jack Benny’s boozing band leader and he became so popular that he was gifted his own show in 1946! He starred with his wife, famous Hollywood actress Alice Faye and the show was a fictionalized version of their lives. Like Jack Benny, Phil Harris surrounded himself with some top tier acting talent with the standouts being Elliot Lewis as best friend Frankie Remly and Walter Tetley as the sarcastic grocery boy Julius. Listen for Gale Gordon in a couple of supporting roles as well. The Phil Harris/Alice Faye show doesn’t quite reach the heights of the Jack Benny program, but’s it’s still damn good! Enjoy! So Sayeth The Kendog!
