Thrillers

Dog’s Movie House: “Last Night In Soho” and “Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin” Hit The Movies Just In Time For Halloween!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at a couple of thrillers just in time for Halloween! First we have the trippy, entertaining-as-hell latest from Edgar Wright, “Last Night In Soho.” Then we have the latest in the seemingly unending Paranormal Activity franchise. This one’s entitiled “Next Of Kin” and although I could list as litany of bad puns regarding how bad the film is (“Be sure to inform your next of kin before seeing “Next Of Kin”) I will not stoop to such levels. Of the two obviously “Last Night In Soho” wins the battle, not just because it’s a better made film but because it feels fresh and orginal, while the Paranormal Activity franchise is definitely suffering from a bit of fatigue.

Dog’s Movie House: “Spiral,” “Oxygen” Thrillers That Go In Different Directions!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog with a look at a couple of different thrillers including a brand new Saw Movie. Both of these films come with different expectations. The Saw franchise has become a Halloween staple for at least a decade or more starting with a decent couple of films by co-creators James Wan and Leigh Whannel. It’s since devolved into a convoluted narrative mess that “Spiral” at least cleans up as a new beginning. On the other hand, Netflix has a new film from director Alexandre Aja (“Crawl”) that features Melanie Laurent in a tour-de-force performance. The film is called “Oxygen” and is an impressive bit of science fiction cinema.

Dog’s Movie House: “Those Who Wish Me Dead” a thriller that benefits from Angelina Jolie and some incredible scenery!

Howdy folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at Angelina Jolie’s latest film, a thriller by Taylor Sheridan titled “Those Who Wish Me Dead.” Sheridan is one of my favorite writers and directors, having penned such excellent films as “Hell Or High Water,” “Wind River,” and “Sicario.” He’s also the creator and primary showrunner for the excellent television series “Yellowstone.” While this most recent film doesn’t quite live up to the some of his others, solid performances and some truly breathtaking photography make this film highly recommended.

Dog’s Movie House: “Queen & Slim,” “Knives Out” Have Energy To Spare But Different Levels Of Effectiveness!

Howdy folks! It’s The Kendog with a look at “Queen & Slim” and the new whodunit “Knives Out.”

Continuing the theme of my earlier article about films for adults, whe have a couple of new films in that vein. “Queen & Slim” is a story that has a great deal of energy but is sloppy in the way it sets up its story. Meanwhile, “Knives Out” is one of the most entertaining films to come out in some time!

Dog’s Movie House: “Glass” A Little More Than Half Full!

Howdy Folks!  It’s The Kendog with a look at M. Night Shyamalan’s “Glass”, the final film in a trilogy that began with “Unbreakable” way back in 2000.

Samuel L. Jackson Returns As Mr. Glass In The Thriller “Glass”

Shyamalan is a talented filmmaker who is a bit hit or miss with me.  I enjoyed “Split,” the second film in the series but was a little cool on the pacing and sudden ending of “Unbreakable.”  For me “Glass” falls somewhere in the middle.
