Sequels

Dog’s Movie House: “F9: The Fast Saga” and “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” Too Overstuffed To Match Previous Entries!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at two franchise films that disprove the saying “you can never have too much of a good thing! “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” is a sequel to the sleeper hit starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson back in 2017 while Vin Diesel and company return in the oft delayed ninth edition of the blockbuster Fast And The Furious Franchise, this time with a bunch of returning characters from other films along with the series most accomplished director in Justin Lin. Both films are highly anticipated and, unfortunately both fail to deliver on the promise of their previous entries.

Dog’s Movie House: “Soul” and “Wonder Woman” Entertaining Way To Start The New Year!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here back after a couple of weeks of holiday mirth-making (subdued though it may be) to jump back in to the movie swimming pool. The end of the year brought us two blockbusters that would normally be released directly into theaters but because of circumstances are getting sent to the streaming services. “Wonder Woman 1984” after several delays got released simultaneously into theaters and HBO Max and Pixar’s latest “Soul” went directly to Disney Plus. It’s a shame these two films can’t be seen on the big screen because both are fine pieces of entertainment, with “Soul” being one of Pixar’s finest in the last few years.

Dog’s Movie House: “The Summer Of Sequels!”

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a very serious question: who else is tired of all the sequels being rammed down our throats this summer?

I’m generally not opposed to sequels or continuing franchise movies but they at least have to look like they’re trying, for goodness sake! This summer seems to be one of mediocrity in terms of franchising and revisiting old properties, but never fear! I shall tell you which ones are worth your time and the ones to avoid!

Dog’s Movie House: “Deadpool 2:” Crazier, More Fun Than The Original!

Howdy Folks!  It’s The Kendog here with my review of “Deadpool 2!”

X-Force prepares to leap into action in “Deadpool 2”

When “Deadpool” hit theaters in February of 2016 it took the cinematic world by storm, becoming the worldwide highest grossing R-rated for a movie in history.  With a witty, hilarious script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and assured direction by Tim Miller, along with a bravura performance by Ryan Reynolds as the Merc With A Mouth, “Deadpool” was unlike any other comic film made.  I’m happy to say that, aside from a change in director (damn those “creative differences”), everyone’s back for the inevitable sequel, making “Deadpool 2” the rare follow-up that’s actually better than the original. Dog’s Movie House: “John Wick: Chapter 2” A Thrilling Roller Coaster Ride!

Howdy Folks!  It’s The Kendog!

Keanu Reeves returns as John Wick in “John Wick: Chapter 2.

“John Wick” has joined the ranks of movies such as “Predator” and “Aliens” and even “Die Hard” as one of the greatest action movies of all time.  It’s endlessly re-watchable, features a committed performance by Keanu Reeves in the lead role, and has an uncommonly strong emotional hook that gives the film more depth than it has any right too.  As a low-budget hit, a sequel seemed inevitable, but unlike the sequels to the above mentioned films, “John Wick: Chapter 2” is every bit the equal of its predecessor, providing more thrills without sacrificing the lean storytelling that marked the original film.
