Dog’s Movie House: Hulu’s “Robots” Is Entertaining Fare That Doesn’t Quite Hit The Bullseye!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at Hulu’s latest original film, a science fiction comedy called “Robots.” It has an intriguing premise: The right wing government has managed to deport all of the illegal aliens back to Mexico and have replaced them with life-like robots to do all the menial tasks the former illegals once performed. Enter Charles (Jack Whitehall) a womanizer who uses his perfectly mannered twin robot C2 (also Whitehall) to do all the dirty work of meeting and wooing several women just so he can sleep with them. Also using this technique is Elaine (Shailene Woodley) a grifter who uses her double E2 (again, also Woodley) to string as many wealthy men along as she can without actually sleeping with them. An odd mixup allows the two robots to meet where they make a connection and decide to run off together, effectively taking over Charles and Elaine’s live. It’s up to the two less than respectable humans to stop their doubles before the authorities find out and arrest the two for possessing illegal versions of themselves.

Hound unleashes in “Transformers: The Last Knight”

 

 

They needed a writer’s room for this?!  The fifth film in the highly profitable yet artistically dubious series about transforming robots, “Transformers: The Last Knight” is an absolute mess.  A well-constructed, occasionally entertaining mess, but a mess nonetheless.  For all the money put onscreen, for all the wonderful special effects work by ILM, there is a mechanical nature to Michael Bay’s latest that literally gives us nothing to care about.  I enjoy a robot throw-down as much as anyone, but five films in and I find myself officially exhausted.   Continue reading
