In fact, it was one of the first to feature its own successful spinoff, The Great Gildersleeve, which premiered in 1941 and ran for almost 15 years on its own. These two early 1940s episodes feature Harold Peary as The Great Gildersleeve, a character so popular he ended up with his own series, marking the first example of a successful spinoff.
