Dog’s Movie House: “Snow White” A Delightful Update Despite The Creepy Looking Dwarves!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a pleasant surprise! The new live-action version of “Snow White” is not nearly the trainwreck I thought it was going to be. In fact, Marc Webb’s film is very good, heartfelt, and funny with some wonderful new songs and organic updates on the old classics. Rachel Zegler is a dynamite Snow White and Gal Godot is both radiant and hiss-worthy as the Evil Queen! Yes, the CGI dwarves are distracting as hell and creepy at first, but even they grow on you after awhile and some of the movie’s most emotional moments involve Snow White’s seven little protectors!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here, back after a bit of time off for the Thanksgiving holiday! Hope you all had a great Turkey Day with family and friends. (And let’s not forget the food!). Although Dog’s Movie House has been a bit silent for the last week or so, I did get a chance to at least see the big movies of the Thanksgiving season. And boy, was it a big two weeks! First “Wicked” and “Gladiator” had massive box office returns the week before Thanksgiving. Then, on the week of, “Moana 2” arrived and told the other two films to “hold my beer.” What’s really encouraging is that all three movies are actually pretty damn good!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at the latest Walt Disney live action “remake!” This one is a new version of the 1989 classic “The Little Mermaid.” The 1989 film is an important landmark for Disney Animatin as it marked the beginning of their rennaisance after suffering sub-par results for the better part of two decades. “The Little Mermaid” is one of those redos that manages to honor the original while adding enough original stuff to it to make the film a thoroughly enthralling experience!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog Here with a top five list of my favorite movie musicals in honor of the rousing film “In The Heights” just released today. Now notice I did not say “best musicals” which gives me a free pass in not including some of the classics of yesteryear. My choices normally revolve around my cinematic sensibilities, which are odd to say the least. As my father famously said, “sometimes you have to be just a half a bubble off to do this job” (of course he was talking about my desire to play the partially suicidal role of indoor soccer goalkeeper at the time, but the phrase still applies). So off we go with my very, very subjective list and you can feel free to disagree or agree with me in the comments below or on my Facebook page. So Sayeth The Kendog!

Howdy folks! It’s The Kendog here with a confession: I generally don’t care much for musicals. I enjoy some of the classics, of course, but there’s something about actors singing their dialogue and spontaneously throwing themselves into dance that just takes me out of the movie. It was especially true in my youth but as I’ve gotten older (if not wiser, heh) I’ve been forced to re-examine my biases toward the venerable cinematic genre and I’ve discovered that a lot of my enjoyment (or lack thereof) has to do with the music. For example, I hated “Les Miserables” because the music reflected the grim nature of the film. With “In The Heights,” the effect was the opposite. The music was so infectious, bouncy and enjoyable that it heightened my enjoyment of the film. Or maybe I’m just overthinking a bit. (It’s possible.)
