Dog’s Movie House: “From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina” A Fine, Fun, Bloody Addition To The World Of John Wick!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here and everyone who knows me knows I absolutely love the John Wick series of films. Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahlski have crafted some of the most exciting, visceral and kinetic action films of all time and the story still remains compelling after four films. In Wick, Reeves has created an all time action movie icon. So when it was announced that Len Wiseman (“Underworld”) was directing the spinoff “Ballerina” I was a little worried. Wiseman is a decent director, but I wasn’t sure his style would mesh with the style of John Wick. I’m happy to say that “From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina” is a fine additon to the franchise, giving us a new compelling character in Ana de Armas’ Eve. It also has time to feature an appearance from the Baby Yaga himself, John Wick!

After watching “No Escape” recently (read the review here) I found myself wondering about the great shootouts in movie history.  I thought the action scenes in “No Escape” were well done although in service to a somewhat empty narrative vessel, but they don’t compare to the shoot-outs I’m about to show you here.  As you watch these, think about the way the music (or lack thereof) heightens the drama, how the choreography is staged and how the actors completely commit to the moment both physically and emotionally.  Or you can simply turn your brain off and enjoy these scenes for what they are:  pure kinetic bliss.  So Sayeth The Kendog!  Continue reading
