Dog’s Movie House: “The Suicide Squad” Trippy, Amoral, Violent, And Wonderfully Hilarious!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with an observation of what a difference a few years makes. Way back in 2016 David Ayer wrote and directed the first “Suicide Squad.” While being a massive hit it was considered by many to be a disjointed, somewhat neutered mess, especially coming from the guy who wrote “Training Day” and directed films such as “End Of Watch” and “Fury.” Now we find out that . . . surprise, surprise, Ayer was interferred with at the studio by suits who wanted to make the film more like the bubbly Marvel films that have been so successful. As a result, the cut of “Suicide Squad” turned out to have too many chefs in the kitchen and Ayer’s version of what the film should be is hardly recognizable as such. Cut to five years later and the idea of DC’s version of a connected universe is decidely in flux at the moment. Now we have James Gunn (“The Guardians of the Galaxy”) commissioned to do a soft reboot on our favorite gang of supervillains trying to do good. Only this time the studio kept their paws off of this film and Gunn has free reign. The result is probably the most entertaining, off-the-wall comic book films in years. It’s like “Deadpool” and “The Avengers” had a child and the result is, put simply, awesome!

The Trailer Dog Park: “F9” and “Mortal Kombat” for the Ten Year-Old Kid In All Of Us!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with another edition of the Trailer Dog Park. This one features a new trailer from “F9” the ninth film in the blockbuster “Fast And The Furious” franchise. It looks like some of the special effects still need a little touching up, but otherwise it looks like another physics-defying, bromance inducing thrill ride. Here we get to see the return of Han from the dead (wonder how they pulled that off) and introduce John Cena as Dom’s long-lost brother. (Seriously, it took nine films to find out Dom had a younger brother?). Next we have the latest trailer for the new “Mortal Kombat” which promises to step up the violence and action to properly honor the game upon which the film is based. A who’s who of martial arts actors get the plum roles and it looks like director Simon McQuaid has a hit on his hands. “Mortal Kombat” hits theaters and HBO Max next Friday. Enjoy and feel free to comment here or at my Facebook page. So Sayeth The Kendog!

Dog’s Movie House: “Sisters” Raunchy Fun From Fey And Poehler!

Howdy Folks!  It’s The Kendog!

Tina Fey And Amy Poehler in "Sisters"

Tina Fey And Amy Poehler in “Sisters”

Now if you’re one of the few people not lining up to see the new Star Wars movie, you do actually have a decent option at the theaters.  In what I consider to be a nice spot of counterprogramming we have the new comedy “Sisters” featuring Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.  There are laughs a plenty and a considerable amount of heart, along with another funny supporting performance by WWE wrestler John Cena that nearly steals the show.  If Jedi or space battles aren’t your thing the “Sisters” just might serve as a viable alternative.  Continue reading
