Dog’s Movie House: “Halloween Kills,” “The Last Duel” On Tap For This Week!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at two highly anticipated releases in theaters this week. First we have Ridley Scott’s “The Last Duel” which features Matt Damon and Adam Driver as former friends and dueling knights who battle to the death over an accusation of rape. Then we have “Halloween Kills” the sequel to the highly successful 2018 reboot of the Halloween franchise featuring everyone’s favorite William Shatner-masked serial killer Michael Meyers. Of the two, “The Last Duel” is the better film, but “Halloween Kills” is not without it’s horror thrills though it fails to live up to the cleverness of it’s predecessor.

Michael Meyers Is Back In “Halloween”
In 1978, director John Carpenter pretty much defined the slasher movie with “Halloween” pitting a masked psychopath against a group of high schoolers in the ultimate game of survival! (Bob Clark’s “Black Christmas” was probably the first “slasher film” but Carpenter’s film really refined the concept.) Since then there have been a bevy of sequels and two reboots, each film varying in quality and in what these films added to an increasingly convoluted mythology. In this new film, writer/director David Gordon Green and frequent collaborator Danny McBride have basically wiped the slate clean, creating a direct sequel forty years in the making, and the film is all the better for it.
