Dog’s Movie House: “Saw X” proves there’s still life in the long running franchise!”

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at “Saw X” the tenth film in a franchise nearly twenty years old. The Saw franchise has declined in quality with each new convoluted chapter, so it was quite the surprise to see that this installment is actually the best film in the entire series. This is due to the fact that “Saw X” actually takes place between the first two films and places the narrative solely on the shoulders of Tobin Bell’s John Kramer, also known as the villainous Jigsaw. Kramer, after receiving his cancer diagnosis, decides to try an expensive experimental treatment in Mexico. What he finds out is that the whole staff are actually a group of con artists who manage to swindle Kramer out of his money without performing any surgery. This leads Kramer to take the whole team of criminals prisoner to play a series of his violent games.

Dog’s Movie House: “Scream VI” A Very Good Continuation Of The Popular Franchise!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at “Scream VI,” the latest in the popular frachise that basically re-invented the slasher film back in 1996. This one is a direct continuation of the popular sequel from last year and it features the four survivors from that film trying to get on with their lives in The Big Apple as college students. They include siblings Sam and Tara (Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega) and the brother/sister duo of Mindy and Chad (Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding). Just when things are starting to get back to normal, a new Ghostface killer shows up and starts picking off Sam’s friends left and right in an unknown vendetta against her. Everyone is a suspect as the meta-movie now moves into self-mocking “franchise” mode and these rules are tougher than ever for our heroes to follow. Can they figure out the identity of Ghostface and stop him before the masked killer butchers them all?

Dog’s Movie House: “Sick” A “Scream” For The Covid Generation!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at a new film from acclaimed screenwriter Kevin Williamson (“Scream”). It’s called “Sick” and does the serial killer thing with a little bit of a twist: it takes place during those first few very scary months of the pandemic when shelter-in-place orders were in full force and not wearing a mask was an invitation to get your ass kicked. Watching this film I found myself experiencing an unpleasant sense of nostalgia as the camera roves along grocery stores with empty shelves and people manically wiping off all of their groceries with wipes after getting them home. Those were the days (and I never want to see them again!)!

Dog’s Movie House: “M3GAN” A Wonderfully Entertaining Comedic Horror Film!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here after a couple of weeks off for the holiday with the first fun film of the new year. It’s called M3GAN and while it has a lot in common with everything from “Frankenstein” to “Child’s Play” it has enough wicked humor and originality to be its own thing! The plot involves a little girl named Cady (Violet McGraw) who loses her parents in a car accident and is sent to live with her aunt, a robotics engineer named Gemma (Alison Williams). Gemma, who’s not good with kids at all, decides to test a new project on her neice, an advanced robot named M3GAN (Model 3 Generative Android). Gemma, who works for a cutting edge toy company, has been developing this project on the side and is a perfect chance to kill two birds with one stone: test her new tech and help herself with taking care of her wounded niece.
