Dog’s Movie House: “Wrath Of Man” Is Guy Ritchie’s “Heat” Which Is A Good Thing!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at Jason Statham’s latest, Guy Ritchie’s “Wrath Of Man.” The movie is an interesting stylistic change of pace for Ritchie, who usually infuses his films with a manic intensity and gobs of humor from his scripts. There is a style to his films that is often imitated by others, but this time Ritchie tones it down a bit with a style more reminiscent of cinematic auteurs like Michael Mann or Christopher Nolan. The result is a sleek, entertaining thriller that is pared down to its basic elements with Statham providing a reliable, if somewhat grim presence.

With summer winding down, two comedies are competing for the top of a decidedly dour box office.  Like so many things entertainment related, marketing often outdoes quality when it comes to getting butts in seats at the movie theaters.  The first of these is “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” which seems like a no-brainer.  Pairing Samuel L Jackson and Ryan Reynolds in an action comedy seems like surefire box office gold, but unfortunately a limp script keeps “Bodyguard” from achieving true greatness.  Fortunately we have Steven Soderbergh, returning from a five-year mini retirement to give us “Logan Lucky” a delightful heist film with a decidedly southern flavor.
