Dog’s Movie House – Luc Besson’s “Dracula” An Odd Bird Of A Film With Some Interesting Moments!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at the latest cinematic version of Bram Stoker’s classic vampire novel “Dracula.” This one is written and directed by notable filmmaker Luc Besson, who gave us “The Fifth Element” and “La Femme Nikita” among others. This version makes some rather severe changes to Stoker’s story while keeping the essential narrative intact. The film is set in not only Transylvania but in Paris rather than England. Several of the characters have been changed from the book as well, although they are essentially playing similar roles in the a different costume. Besson leans into the tragic romance that drives the story but leaves most of the scares at home!

Dog’s Movie House: “Send Help” A Fine Return To Form For Sam Raimi!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here and a new film from Sam Raimi is always something to celebrate! It’s been a bit since he released a new movie as a director but the creator of the Evil Dead franchise and the creator of the first (and some say, best) Spider Man trilogy has returned in a big way with “Send Help” a survival-revenge horror film that scratches that Raimi itch just right! If you’re a fan of Sam Raimi’s style of gross-out horror, comedy, and excellent filmmaking techniques, then “Send Help” is for you!

Dog’s Movie House: “Mercy” Mostly Entertaining Look At The Possible Future Of Law Enforcement!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog Here with a look at a movie that I thought would have gotten more publicity! It’s called” Mercy and it’s a science fiction film starring none other than Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson! Chris Pratt alone should sell the movie, but I’ve seen very little in the way of marketing for the film. It’s directed by Timur Bekmambetov who is probably best known for “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” and features a script by Marco van Belle that touches on some themes including AI and authoritarianism. Despite these not inconsiderable talents both in front of and behind the camera, the result is a film that’s fun but eventually forgettable!

Howdy Folks! Welcome to another episode of Radio Daze. This week’s edition features as well-regarded thriller program called The Mysterious Traveller. Running for nine years from 1943 to 1952, TheMysterious Traveller provided quality storytelling that was as good as more well known shows like Suspense and The Whistler. I have a couple of episodes from the spring of 1944 for you tonight. I think you like them and they’re a great way to pass the time on a cold winter night! So Sayeth The Kendog!

Dog’s Movie House: “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” A Tour De Force For Ralph Fiennes!”

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here and I have to say I really enjoyed “28 Years Later” right up until the wild tonal shift that marked the ending. It wasn’t enough to kill the movie, but the Power Rangers routine featuring an adult Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) made collective audiences shake their collective heads in a gesture of “WTF?” Now, a year later, Danny Boyle has moved away from the director’s chair in favor of Nia DaCosta (“Candyman”) with another tight script by Alex Garland. The result is a tight central chapter in a planned trilogy that actually redeems the ending of the first film and makes both better as a result!
