Dog’s Movie House: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” Gives The Heroes A Lively Animated Reboot!
Howdy folks! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been around for the better part of thirty-five years and have become embedded in our pop culture consciousness. People who barely know the films, comics and television shows know the names Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raaphael, and Donatello, as well as Splinter and Shredder. Michael Bay put his own roided out spin on things a few years back and those films were somewhat successful, but the playful nature of these “heroes-in-a-half-shell” haven’t had their playfull roots shown in awhile. Now comes “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayem” to provide a fresh, mostly invigorating spin on the Turtles with some wonderful animation!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with an admission: I really love Steve Alten’s “Meg” series of books. They’re entertaining with relatable characters and some pretty cool ocean monsters. They are also fairly serious endeavors, so when the first “Meg” film came out in 2018, I was somewhat surprised to see a somewhat lighthearted, goofy take on the story. It was entertaining, to be sure, but part of me wishes for a more serious treatment of Alten’s fascinating universe. That said, “Meg 2: The Trench” ups the ante on shark action and silliness, and knowing that going into the film made me enjoy it a lot more!

Howdy Folks! A24 Studios have done it again! The studio behind “Midsommer” and “Hereditary” are back with a spooky Australian film called “Talk To Me” which tales the tale of a group of teens who get into trouble when they play a party game that allows them to be briefly possessed by otherworldly spirits. Of course, when the rules are ignored, mayhem and bloodshed ensue and the spirits decide they like it in the real world and decide to stay to cause more mayhem!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here and I have to tell you the the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland is one of my favorite rides at the park. I was one of the first three rides I went on as a wee child of seven and it continues to enchant all these years later. Spooky without really being scary, it’s the perfect haunted house for the whole family! The same can be said for Justin Simien’s very entertaining film of the same name, improving on it’s mediocre predecessor from 2003 (that one starred Eddie Murphy) and providing a smart script that fleshes out the living, so to speak!
Continue readingDog’s Movie House: “Oppenheimer” A Massive Cinematic Achievement From Christopher Nolan!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at Christopher Nolan’s latest epic, “Oppenheimer,” a biographical tale detailing the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), the brilliant physicist responsible for the creation of the atomic bomb. To call “Oppenheimer” epic would be a bit of an understatement, as this film has the scope and style of David Lean’s great pictures of the past. It’s big, brawny filmmaking that is detail oriented at the same time, with a sprawling cast of the who’s-who of the acting community playing the who’s-who of historical figures associated with the Manhattan Project. But “Oppenheimer” doesn’t stop there: it also tells the tale of the aftermath of the end of World War II in which Oppenheimer had to defend himself from being labeld a communist for his anti-war feelings. This film is emotional, gripping, and harrowing, a cautionary tale about the overriding allure of ultimate power and the corruption it encourages.
