Dog’s Movie House: “Anaconda” Disappointing In It’s Mediocrity!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a confession: I love 1997’s “Anaconda” featuring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Eric Stoltz. It’s a fun jungle adventure movie, almost a throwback that plays it straight while at the same time not taking itself too seriously. The titular snake is more movie monster than actual animal, and while the CGI effects are dodgy at times, the set pieces and kills are both imaginative. When I saw the trailer for the meta-reboot of “Anaconda” starring none other than Jack Black and Paul Rudd, I was of two potential opinions: either it would be a hilarious satirical romp or it would be one of the worst movies of the entire year. Turns out I was wrong on both counts!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film. It’s titled “One Battle After Another” and it is, quite simply, a masterpiece of filmmaking. Anderson, known for such classics as “There Will Be Blood” and “Boogie Nights” has crafted a timely, chilling, compassionate, and thrilling film that takes the current geopolitical situation and sets it as the backdrop of a thrilling, often funny, story about love and family. Featuring terrific performances from Leonardo Dicaprio, Teyana Taylor, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, and a terrific turn from up-and-coming star Chase Infinity, “One Battle After Another” will stick in your head long after the final credits roll!
Continue readingDog’s Movie House: “Deadpool & Wolverine” Refreshingly Raunchy, Gory, Hilarious, Love Letter To The Fox Comic Book Era!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog! Well, the most anticipated movie of the summer has arrived I can difinitively say it does not disappoint. “Deadpool & Wolverine” is hands down one of the most entertaining films of the year. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman finally team up as Deadpool and Wolverine and the results are side-splitting, violent, and unexpectedly poignant. The film is filled with appearances from several characters from the Fox era of Marvel films and many of them have a significant impact on the story. “Deadpool & Wolverine” serves as a snarky love letter to the uneven but influential era of superhero films that took place before the MCU took over and it’s a joy to behold!
Continue readingDog’s Movie House: “Inside Out 2” Return To Form For Pixar & Disney!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here and Pixar Studios has taken it on the chin lately since the pandemic (along with parent company Walt Disney, of course). “Onward” the last film released in cinemas before Covid shut everything down, did middling box office at best and “Lightyear” got blasted for trying to make a space epic out of a beloved series of movies about toys. In between, Disney had the bright idea to release three Pixar films to Disney Plus. We had “Luca” “Soul” and “Turning Red,” on the small screen and it conditioned fans to stay away from the cinema. The movies were uniformly excellent, but the perception that Pixar was losing steam was very real. Last year Pixar released “Elemental” and it looked like another crash and burn for the studio with the lowest opening weekend for a Pixar film in ages. Yet the film seemed to find its legs and became a modest hit, showing signs Pixar wasn’t quite down for the count yet. Now we have “Inside Out 2” the highly anticipated sequel to 2015’s original film that was hailed as an instant masterpiece and a perfect pyschological primer on children’s emotions. It was a pretty big hit as well. That’s a lot to live up to, but “Inside Out 2” not only meets the quality of the original but exceeds it, seemlessly weaving in complex new emotions to interact with our favorites as pre-teen Riley is now a teenager. (Look out for falling glass!)
