Dog’s Movie House: “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Delightful Continuation Of Original Film!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here and I must acknowledge the fact that 1984’s classic “Ghostbusters” captured lightening in a bottle with it’s combination of scares and big-time (mostly adult) laughs. It was also a product of the 1980s, when you could go a lot farther with a PG rating. The subsequent sequels couldn’t capture that same lightening (“Ghostbusters 2” with all of the original players, both in front and behind the camera, could only produce a pale copy of the first film, and the female-led 2016 film couldn’t quite get the chemistry right despite a game cast.) The two legacy sequels that have come in the last couple of years have taken a different tack: They lean into the nostalgia of the first film without aping it’s style. The technique is quite clever as you feel like you’re watching a “Ghostbusters” movie without ever thinking you’re watching a cash-grab copy!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at “Strays,” a movie about one dog’s journey to castrate his despicable owner. That is not a joke. It’s the actual story folks! After being abandoned by his cruel owner Doug (Will Forte), Reggie (Will Ferrell) finds himself alone in the big city. Soon after he meets Bug (Jamie Foxx), a stray who’s happy where he is. After a night on the town accompanied by Austrailian Sheepdog Maggie (Ilsa Fisher) and neurotic Great Dane Hunter (Randall Park), Reggie’s new friends decide to help the little guy back to his owner’s house for a neutering party of their own. Along the way they face several challenges and become a family of their own. All together now. . .aaaaaawwww!

“Ideas are forever! People are definitely not!” This line is spoken Ruth (Rhea Perlman) to Barbie (Margot Robbie) near the end of the film and it got me thinking about the many, many ideas Greta Gerwig’s take on the iconic toy. It’s a highly original piece of cinema and more thought provoking than a movie about a busty doll should ever even think of being. Credit to Gerwig and writing partner (as well as husband) Noah Baumbach for crafting a film that is both enjoyable and thought provoking at the same time.

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at the third and final (maybe) entry into the popular “Guardians Of The Galaxy” series. SImply called “Vol. 3” this film reunites the primary cast and introduces some interesting new characters. Writer/director James Gunn’s final entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is an incredibly entertaining film that tugs on the heartstrings like very few comic book movies do.

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” the latest attempt to create a feature film out of the longtime role playing game. I’m happy to say that this film is a great deal of fun with some really funny scenes and some nifty battle scenes and special effects. Chris Pine plays Edgin, a former spy turned thief attempting to find the whereabouts of his daughter. When he finds that she has been taken by former comrade turned evil lord of Neverwinter (Hugh Grant, clearly having the time of his life), he gathers his former team of thieves to rescue his daughter. In another complication, a dark wizard is attempting to use the unsuspecting lord to raise an army of the dead.
