Radio Daze: “The Life Of Riley” And “Duffy’s Tavern” To Tickle Your Old Radio Funny Bone!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with another episode of “Radio Daze” This week we’re featuring two episodes each of a couple of classic comedies. First we have two April 1949 episodes of “The Life Of Riley” featuring William Bendix as Chester Riley, a working class father who was the master of the malaprop. His verbal contortions provided most of the shows comedy. Also popular on the show was cast member John Brown who voiced both Riley’s best friend Gillis and the extremely funny Digger O’Dell, The Friendly Undertaker. Next we have a couple of 1943 episdoes of “Duffy’s Tavern” starring Ed Gardener as Archie the bartender. Like Riley, Archie’s linguistic skills bordered on the surreal. The show, which ran from 1941 to 1951 was known for having big guest stars visit the tavern. These two episodes feature Veronica Lake and the legendary Orson Welles. Enjoy! So Sayeth The Kendog!
