Dog’s Movie House: “Shape Of Water” Outstanding, “All The Money In The World” Solid Entertainment!

Howdy Folks!  It’s The Kendog with a couple of new releases you should check out!

Doug Jones As The Creature In “The Shape Of Water.”

Awards season is rapidly approaching in the film business and while “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is cleaning up the box office, several other new films are vying for both your dollars and a piece of the awards pie.   Into this mix are two standout films, both made for adults.  Guillermo Del Toro’s latest, “The Shape Of Water” makes it easily on to my top ten list this year, while Ridley Scott’s “All The Money In The World” is a fine film but an even more amazing filmmaking accomplishment in that Scott and his team had to reshoot entire sections of the film just months before its release, replacing the fired Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer as J. Paul Getty.

Mark Hamill Returns As Luke Skywalker In “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”

I must apologize for the lateness of this post.  I’ve been under the weather a bit lately and with all of the Christmas preparations underway it’s been a tad difficult to keep up with the site.  For that I am truly sorry.  However, you can catch up with my latest audio reviews of “Ladybird,” “Three Billboards,” and others by clicking on the link to the America Matters Media website and searching for the show “Dog’s Movie House” among the many podcasts.  That should keep you up to date as my health continues to improve.  That said, it’s time for my review of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”  I will keep this review spoiler-free for those of you who haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, but I will say that writer/director Rian Johnson has definitely made a film that takes some terrific story Doturns while still feeling like a Star Wars film.   It manages to darken things up a bit thematically while still providing the humor and fireworks one is accustomed to seeing in a Star Wars film.   In short, “The Last Jedi” is positively terrific!

The Kenblog: “Disneyland” During A Simpler Time!

Howdy Folks!  It’s The Kendog!

I have a deep and abiding love for all thing Disney.  I am especially fond of Disneyland and all of the classic attractions I remember enjoying as a kid, when my grandparents and my parents first let me experience “The Happiest Place On Earth.”  That said, Disneyland was going strong by the time I visited for the first time.  My mother and her folks actually went the year it opened and I still remember Mom’s recollections of her first theme park experience.  Now, thanks to my brother’s intrepid searching of YouTube, I have for you celebrity coverage of the opening day of Disneyland in 1955 in glorious, non-HD black and white!   Enjoy and feel free to comment below!  So Sayeth The Kendog!  Continue reading

The Trailer Dog Park: “Avengers: Infinity War” Is Here!

Howdy Folks!  It’s The Kendog!

Well after a whole lot of hype Marvel Studios “Avengers: Infinity War” has finally dropped its first trailer.  It’s broken records and you’ve probably seen it already, but I’m including it here because I think it’s a well-done teaser for one of the most anticipated movies next year.  For my two cents I believe the trailer to be the perfect sort of teaser showing just enough to stoke anticipation without giving the whole damn story away.  “Infinity War” is shaping up to be the total tent-pole event “Justice League” tried to be.  WB Studios should take note: the Marvel formula may have a few hiccups involved but there is something to be said for every filmmaker having a unified vision while still being able to push some of the creative boundaries of the comic book film.  If Warner Brother’s wants to compete with Marvel with their DC license, then they need to take the reigns off their filmmakers and concentrate on letting them make good movies.  Then, only then, can the studio start to construct a proper shared universe.  Enjoy the trailer and feel free to comment below!  So Sayeth The Kendog! Dog’s Movie House: “Coco” An Inspiring, Imaginative Concoction From Pixar!

Inhabitants of The Land Of The Dead In Pixar’s “Coco”

I’ve been told on more than one occasion by colleagues that the bloom is officially off the rose at Pixar.  While it’s true that some of their offerings haven’t been as bold and originally as some of their earlier films (I’m looking at you “Cars 3”) the studio continues to put out solid, wonderful entertainment with only the occasional misfire (“The Good Dinosaur).  It’s a record any studio, animated or otherwise, would be proud to have.   That said, Pixar has always been at it’s best when pushing original material and in “Coco” Pixar proves once again that it’s the best in the business when it comes to multilayered animated films.
