Dog’s Movie House: “Troll” Fun Creature Feature From Netflix!
It’s a very simple setup and one you’ve seen in a hundred different creature features, from “Godzilla” to “King Kong” but the fun of this particular film is in the details. The special effects are actually quite good and Uthaug’s use of camera angles and setups lead to some fun and sometimes awe-inspiring action sequences. Screenwriters Uthaug and Espen Aukan also make use liberal use of Norwegian mythology, especially when it comes to trolls and mythical creatures, to add some layers of originality to the tale.
The deficiencies to the film are in the form of the story itself which is a bit too simple to be anything but a framework for the action. The other is in the performances which are harmed by the dubbing. If you can, check out “Troll” on the subtitled setting, which wasn’t available for the copy I watched, unfortunately. It might improve the performances. Overall, though, “Troll” is a fun Netflix adventure that should satisfy creature feature fans of all ages. 3 1/2 Out Of 5 On Kendog’s Barkometer!
