The Kenblog: “James Bond Rents A Car.”

Having just come from the latest James Bond Film “Spectre” I have to say one of the things that impressed me was the level of humor coming from Daniel Craig’s Bond this time around.  While not gut-bustingly over-the-top in the vein of the hope-I-never-see-it Jim Carrey interpretation of Bond, Craig’s superspy is not quite as dour as he’s been in the last few entries.  Speaking of Craig’s sense of humor, I ran across this almost by accident and laughed my rather large posterior off.  Imagine, if you will, what would happen if James Bond had to rent a car and the rental agent was none other than Stephen Colbert.   This is from a recent episode of Colbert’s “The Late Show.” Bonus points for Craig barely keeping it together during the long sketch.  Enjoy!  So Sayeth The Kendog! It’s Halloween time again and you know what that means for movie lovers.  Time to sit in front of the television and re-acquaint yourself with some of the best scary movies you can think of.  Now I’m going to refrain from doing a standard top ten of all time list, instead choosing to pick ten movies you might not have heard of or might not think of as great scary movies, but take it from me when I say they’ll be worth the watch.  Some are classics, some are not, but all are good-to-great scary movies.  Enjoy! The Kenblog: The Nicholas Brothers Are Here For Your Entertainment!

Howdy Folks!  It’s The Kendog!

Sometimes it takes a little while for me to get the most recent reviews up in what one would call a timely manner.  I have an alter ego that unfortunately has to work every day and at odd hours.  (Apparently I didn’t qualify for the alter ego that lets me leap tall buildings in a single bound. . .some guys have all the luck.)  That said, I don’t want you fine folks to get bored, so I decided to put up some entertaining stuff that will be sure to get you movin’ and groovin’ in your seat.  Now most folks think of James Brown, Michael Jackson, or even MC Hammer as the greatest dancers ever to prowl the stage, but I’ve got a couple of brothers that’ll blow’em all away.  They’re called the Nicholas Brothers and, although their heyday was in the 1940’s, I’m sure you’ll agree that their dance moves are absolutely timeless.  Enjoy!  So Sayeth The Kendog! The Kenblog: A Remembrance Of September 11, 2001!

Howdy folks!  It’s The Kendog!

I’m not much for politics or organized religion, though I do have my own personal beliefs concerning both, but fourteen years ago an event occurred that, to this day, transcends those opinion oriented ideals and creates a sense of common ground for everyone, regardless of race, religious or sexual preference, or even nationality.  The terrorists attacks on the Twin Towers still serve as a watershed moment for our country in which we looked evil in the eye and had to find the courage to collectively not blink.  It is an event that informs our everyday lives even fourteen years later, birthing a culture of fear in this country that we still haven’t erased from our collective emotional center.  Change is often slow, especially in a country as large and diverse as ours, but change is also inevitable.  I hope we can one day make to a place where fear and anger do not rule our everyday lives.  I hope for a time when we can embrace all faiths and nationalities as brothers and sisters again as I believe the melting pot of the United States is ideally suited.   I hope we can grow and learn beyond the events of 9/11 without ever forgetting the cost of the actions of that terrible day.  Below is what I consider to be a fitting tribute video for the day.  And as always, our prayers and thoughts are with those who lost during that terrible tragedy.  Continue reading

The Kenblog: Remembering Wes Craven!

Legendary Filmmaker Wes Craven (1939*2015)

Legendary Filmmaker Wes Craven (1939-2015)

The cinematic world lost a great one this week with the passing of Wes Craven from brain cancer at the age of 76.  The man was a superb craftsman in the world of cinematic horror, giving us such horror icons such as Freddy Krueger and the Mask from the Scream Franchise.  He was a writer and director who took potentially schlocky material and elevated with talent, poise, and panache, as well as an immense gift for scaring the hell out of his audience.  Continue reading
