Radio Daze: Let’s Hit Up Some Dragnet For Your Old Radio Listening Pleasure!
Howdy Folks! Welcome to another edition of Radio Daze! This episode features a couple of classic episodes from none other than Dragnet. The hard hitting police drama first made it’s way to radio in 1949 and became a staple on both radio and television during the 50’s and 60’s. Created by and starring Jack Webb, Dragnet was known for it’s (mostly) authentic portrayal of police work from crime to punishment. It’s a classic show with those wonderful old school vibes. These two episodes are from the summer of 1951! Enjoy! So Sayeth The Kendog!
Radio Daze: Some “Burns & Allen” For Your Old Radio Listening Pleasure!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with another edition of Radio Daze. This week we’re giving you a couple of classic episodes of the “Burns & Allen” program featuring George & Gracie. These two episodes, sponsored by Maxwell House Coffee, feature Gracie confusing a crime program and a strange phone call with real life gangsters. Featuring the great Elliot Lewis as The Tall Man and all of the other supporting performers like Bill Goodwin, Meredith Wilson, and Mel Blanc, these two programs are classicss of the Old Radio Age! Enjoy! So Sayeth The Kendog!
Radio Daze: Jack Benny Does “Snow White” And “The Hound Of The Baskervilles” For Your Old Radio Listening Pleasure!
Howdy Folks! Welcome to another edition of Radio Daze! In honor of Disney’s release of the new “Snow White” film, I thought it would be fun to feature Jack Benny’s take on the classic film. From 1938, Jack Benny and his gang put on a riotus version of the classic Disney tale titled “Snow White And The Seven Gangsters.” It’s one of the Jell-O era’s funniest offerings and features one of the longest sustained laughs from the audience in radio history (you’ll know it when you hear it.) A few months later, Jack and the gang performed their version of Sherlock Holmes “The Hound Of The Baskervilles.” Sir Arthur Conan Doyle probably wasn’t figuring on this type of adaptation of his work. Both shows will tickle your funny bone! Enjoy! So Sayeth The Kendog!
Radio Daze: Jack Benny Is Alive And Kicking For Your Old Radio Listening Pleasure!
Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with another episode of Radio Daze. This edition features the legendary Jack Benny during his years on the Jello Progam. These two episode are from 1940 and feature Benny with legends Orson Welles and Fred Allen. Allen, in particular is a funny counterpoint to Benny, as the two good friends had quite the radio feud that ran from the late 1930s all the way through the 40s. Both of these programs feature Benny at his best. Truly funny programs to listen two huddled up by the fire during the evening! Enjoy! So Sayeth The Kendog!
Radio Daze: Some “Pat Novak For Hire” For Your Old Radio Listening Pleasure!
Howdy Folks! Welcome to another episode of Radio Daze! This week we’re featuring the legendary Jack Webb, but not in the role for which he’s most famous. Before Joe Friday and Dragnet, Webb worked as San Francisco investigator Pat Novak in Pat Novak For Hire, an excellently quirky and well written detective show that wore its pulp roots on it’s sleeve. Webb got to show a lot more personality in this short lived show, which featured a young Raymond Burr as antagonist Inspector Hellman. Only running a couple of seasons at most, it’s still worth a listen and will bring a smile to your face! Enjoy! So Sayeth The Kendog!
