Dog’s Movie House: “Shotgun Wedding” Middling Comedy With Game Jennifer Lopez And Jennifer Coolidge!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog her with a look at Amazon Prime’s latest streamer. This one stars Jennifer Lopez and is called “Shotgun Wedding.” Lopez stars as Darcy Rivera, a fortysomething professional who’s getting married in a big wedding in the Phillipines to former ballplayer Tom Fowler (Josh Duhamel). There’s a bit of tension because Tom is all about the perfect wedding while Darcy just wants something simple. The two families don’t necessarily get along, and to make matters worse, Darcy’s ex Sean (Lenny Kravitz) shows up to make Tom even more insecure. Things really go from bad to worse when pirates show up and take everyone save the not-so-happy couple hostage. It’s up to Darcy and Tom attempt a rescue their guests while trying to sort out their relationship.

Dog’s Movie House: “Missing” A Unique, Involving Thriller!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at the new thriller “Missing” from the makers of a similar thriller a few years ago called “Searching.” In fact, “Missing” is a direct sequel to the former although it’s basically a stand alone story. Storm Reid plays June, an eighteen year old who’s mother Grace (Nia Long) disappears after heading to Columbia with boyfriend Kevin (Ken Leung). June, who has a strained relationship with her mother, is forced to reevaluate everything when she begins to investigate Grace’s disappearance. With the help of a part time worker in Columbia named Javi (the excellent Joaquim de Almeida), she finds herself involved in a mystery that puts her very life in danger.

Dog’s Movie House: “Sick” A “Scream” For The Covid Generation!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at a new film from acclaimed screenwriter Kevin Williamson (“Scream”). It’s called “Sick” and does the serial killer thing with a little bit of a twist: it takes place during those first few very scary months of the pandemic when shelter-in-place orders were in full force and not wearing a mask was an invitation to get your ass kicked. Watching this film I found myself experiencing an unpleasant sense of nostalgia as the camera roves along grocery stores with empty shelves and people manically wiping off all of their groceries with wipes after getting them home. Those were the days (and I never want to see them again!)!

Dog’s Movie House: “Plane” May Be A Dippy Title, But It’s A Pretty Darn Good Action Flick!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with Gerard Butler’s latest foray into the realm of action moviemaking. This one’s called “Plane” and features Butler as Brodie Torrance, an airline pilot who is forced by his cheap airline to fly through a storm from Southeast Asia To Tokyo on New Year’s Eve. Good news is that the holiday means not having a full load of passengers. The bad news is that one of those passengers is an accussed murder named Louis Gaspare (an appropriately intimidating Mike Colter) being returned to the States via Tokyo buy a federal marshall. The storm blasts the planes electronics and Brodie is forced to put the plane down on what turns out to be an unclaimed island in the Phillipines run by separatists and criminals so dangerous the Phillipine government won’t touch the place without a full military invasion. When his passengers are kidnapped by the bad guys, it’s up to Brodie and Gaspare to save the day in time for the crisis team back home (led by a straightfoward Tony Goldwyn) to mount a rescue.

Dog’s Movie House: “The Pale Blue Eye” Elevated By Christian Bale’s Performance!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with a look at Netflix’s latest, an adaptation of of Louis Bayard’s novel “A Pale Blue Eye.” It’s a twisty detective thriller set during the winter of 1830 at West Point. The murder of a young cadet has the West Point Administration sending for retired detective Augustus Landor (Christian Bale) to solve the case before the suits in Washington use it as an excuse to shut the place down. Landor meets a young cadet named Edgar Allen Poe (Harry Melling). Yes, that Edgar Allen Poe, who’s bullied and is trying to find his place in the world but is smart as a whip. Enlisting the young Poe’s aid, Landor finds himself in the middle of a possible conspiracy involving black magic, revenge, and class warfare that puts both his and Poe’s life in danger.
