The Kenblog: Remembering M Emmet Walsh!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with some sad news this week. Legendary character actor M Emmet Walsh died at the age of 88. The instantly recognizable Walsh always managed to add some serious heft to whatever movie or television series in which he appeared. I won’t give you his bio here as you can get that on any number of websites. But what I will give you is a look at some of his most well known roles so you can see a master at work. He was one of the many actors who disappeared into his roles and toiled endlessly on hundreds of films and television series. M Emmet Walsh is a legend and he will be missed! So Sayeth The Kendog!

Dog’s Movie House: “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Delightful Continuation Of Original Film!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here and I must acknowledge the fact that 1984’s classic “Ghostbusters” captured lightening in a bottle with it’s combination of scares and big-time (mostly adult) laughs. It was also a product of the 1980s, when you could go a lot farther with a PG rating. The subsequent sequels couldn’t capture that same lightening (“Ghostbusters 2” with all of the original players, both in front and behind the camera, could only produce a pale copy of the first film, and the female-led 2016 film couldn’t quite get the chemistry right despite a game cast.) The two legacy sequels that have come in the last couple of years have taken a different tack: They lean into the nostalgia of the first film without aping it’s style. The technique is quite clever as you feel like you’re watching a “Ghostbusters” movie without ever thinking you’re watching a cash-grab copy!

Dog’s Movie House: “Kung Fu Panda 4” A Worthy Addition To The Franchise!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here and I’ve always been a fan of the Kung Fu Panda series of films because I’ve always enjoyed their enthusiasm and respect for the classic martial arts movies they’re honoring. Now over the years there has been a little bit of dimishing story quality, but not enough to justify ditching the series. I’m pleased to report that “Kung Fu Panda 4” and its continuing growth of lead character Po (Jack Black) is still a beautifully animated entertaining romp with some great work from its A-List vocal cast!

Radio Daze: Some “X-Minus One” For Your Old Radio Listening Pleasure!

Howdy Folks! It’s The Kendog here with another edition of Radio Daze! In honor of the new sci-fi epic “Dune: Part 2” I thought it would be fun to include a couple of classic radio episodes of “X-Minus One” an old radio show that ran for a few years in the 1950s. Using stories from Richard Matheson, Ray Bradbury, Philip K. Dick and others, “X-Minus One” was a truly entertaining and well-written series that’s perfect for the theater of the mind. Enjoy these shows! So Sayeth The Kendog!
